About the Author
Dina Davidovich was an author, speaker, and Holocaust survivor from Széchény, Hungary. Born in 1931, young Dina enjoyed the safety and beauty of her small Hungarian village, as well as the amity across those of religious and cultural differences. However, this tranquility would be tragically and abruptly cut short by the growing anti-Semitism in Europe at the time. At just fourteen years of age, Dina along with her mother and older sister were forcefully taken to multiple Nazi concentration camps over the course of a year as part of Hitler’s desperate last gasp toward the end of World War II. In the darkest moments, Dina never gave up her fight for life, surviving the infamous six-day “Death March” before finding herself liberated by the Red Army in 1945.
On the fortieth anniversary of her unlikely emancipation, Dina’s impulse to tell her story led her to write the powerful testimony that became Return to Life. Dina lived out the rest of her life in Mexico City, Mexico, surrounded by her children and grandchildren–the truest testament of life. Although she passed away at the age of seventy-five in 2006, Dina’s message still rings loud and true: all hate needs to persist is for humanity to remain silent. We must never forget.
